Meet our Instructors

Darren Schmidt

Darren is a Platinum Cirrus Standardised Instructor Pilot (CSIP) trained by Cirrus in Knoxville, Tennessee, and the Head of Operations at ARC Aviation.  With over 4,000 flight instruction hours and over 1,600 hours Cirrus time, Darren has extensive experience in single and multi-engine training from ab-initio to command instrument ratings.  

Darren also holds CASA testing approvals for RPL, PPL, NVFR and IFR including PIFR.

Chris Paterson

Chris is a qualified Cirrus Training Centre Instructor (TCI) with over 1,500 hours flight instruction time in a range of single and twin engine aircraft as a CASA Grade 1 multi-engine instructor. He has been flying for over thirty five years, with the past fifteen primarily at Moorabbin Airport and also has experience in IFR charter and scenic flight operations for several operators in Melbourne and along the Victorian coast.

ARC Aviation Simulator

Our simulator is extremely useful in Instrument training allowing for a myriad of instrument procedures including RNP, ILS, VOR, LOC and GNSS approaches along with holding patterns and en-route navigation.
50% of your instrument training can be logged in the simulator which helps reduce cost but more importantly allows time for you and your instructor to repeat procedures easily and induce real world weather conditions.

ARC Aviation has CASA approval for RPL, PPL, CPL, NVFR, IFR and PIFR (Private IFR) training.
Theory classes are available along with in-house CASA exams for PPL and PIFR

Using the Cirrus Learning Portal, Cirrus Approach incorporates on-line Aircraft and Avionics training modules and Flight Operations Manuals for each of its aircraft. ARC Aviation can coordinate and assist with your participation in all phases of Cirrus training.
